is seeking an AO3 Accounts Payable Officer
to join a Queensland State Government Department based in Brisbane CBD. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to a vital Financial Services team.
This initial contract runs until the end of October, with a strong possibility of extension.

About the Role
You will be an integral part of a Financial Services team responsible for corporate financial accounting and reporting, management accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and taxation. This role offers a chance to work within a dynamic public sector environment and apply your expertise in financial administration.
Key Responsibilities
As an Accounts Payable Officer, your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring invoices comply with GST and withholding requirements and are appropriately authorised.
- Processing invoices for payment according to internal controls and financial policies, investigating any non-compliance.
- Ensuring timely payment to creditors and producing urgent cheques as required.
- Entering cheque and travel request claims into the business system and offsetting them in the finance system upon payment.
- Preparing monthly accruals, maintaining, and generating recurring and prepayment documents.
- Performing monthly reconciliations and investigating discrepancies promptly.
- Investigating overpayments to suppliers and following up on their recovery.
- Reviewing corporate card documentation for correct coding, analysing expenditure, and ensuring policy compliance.
- Safeguarding, distributing, and managing petty cash for the Brisbane office.
- Liaising with creditors regarding invoices and directing other enquiries.
- Preparing reports for management as needed.
- Developing and maintaining work instructions for the role.
- Assisting staff with accurate and timely invoice actioning in the record management system and following up on discrepancies.
- Actively participating in team planning and ensuring compliance with corporate responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Administrative experience and knowledge of financial procedures relating to accounts payable, including expenditure authorisation, account payment, and financial record maintenance.
- Essential experience using TechnologyOne.
- The ability to work independently, plan ahead, monitor task progress to meet deadlines, and reorganise work to reflect changing priorities.
- Proficiency in information technology systems such as Microsoft Office and the ability to learn organisation-specific systems.
- Effective communication skills to interact with stakeholders and clients, providing courteous, prompt, and professional services.
