The Opportunity

Our Queensland State Government client is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Advisor to join their Financial Reporting team on a contract basis through to 27 August 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong public sector experience to contribute to high-quality financial reporting outcomes during a critical period including end-of-financial-year (EOFY).

Based in Brisbane CBD, you will work within a collaborative finance team and play a key role in producing accurate, compliant financial statements and reports in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Government requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the production of financial reports and consolidated financial statements, with a strong focus on EOFY deliverables.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with relevant legislation, government policies, and Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of financial reporting internal controls, including general ledger reconciliations and data integrity checks.
  • Develop and review policies, practices, and procedures to identify business improvement opportunities and internal control enhancements.
  • Provide expert advice to departmental officers on accounting policies and the design and implementation of financial information systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date expertise in financial reporting legislation, accounting standards, and government policies.

About You

You are an experienced finance professional with a proven track record in financial reporting — ideally within the Queensland or broader Australian public sector. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
  • Solid experience preparing and reviewing financial statements, with strong familiarity with EOFY processes.
  • Sound knowledge and application of Australian Accounting Standards, statutory obligations, and Queensland Government financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in SAP R/4 Hana (or equivalent ERP), the Microsoft Office suite, and data analytics tools.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across business units, regions, and external agencies.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in accounting, commerce, or business administration (highly desirable), and/or membership of a professional accounting body (e.g. CPA, CA).
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check
Why Apply?
  • Attractive hourly rate of $69.17 + super at the AO6 classification level.
  • Meaningful work contributing to public sector financial governance and accountability.
  • Brisbane CBD location with a collaborative, supportive team environment.
  • Exposure to a large, complex Queensland Government organisation.

How to Apply

If you have strong financial reporting experience and are available for an immediate or near-immediate start, we want to hear from you. Please apply with your updated CV outlining your relevant experience in financial statements and EOFY reporting.
