Our Queensland State Government client is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Advisor to join their Financial Reporting team on a contract basis through to 27 August 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong public sector experience to contribute to high-quality financial reporting outcomes during a critical period including end-of-financial-year (EOFY).
Based in Brisbane CBD, you will work within a collaborative finance team and play a key role in producing accurate, compliant financial statements and reports in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Government requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the production of financial reports and consolidated financial statements, with a strong focus on EOFY deliverables.
- Ensure departmental compliance with relevant legislation, government policies, and Australian Accounting Standards.
- Monitor and review the effectiveness of financial reporting internal controls, including general ledger reconciliations and data integrity checks.
- Develop and review policies, practices, and procedures to identify business improvement opportunities and internal control enhancements.
- Provide expert advice to departmental officers on accounting policies and the design and implementation of financial information systems.
- Maintain up-to-date expertise in financial reporting legislation, accounting standards, and government policies.
About You
You are an experienced finance professional with a proven track record in financial reporting — ideally within the Queensland or broader Australian public sector. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Solid experience preparing and reviewing financial statements, with strong familiarity with EOFY processes.
- Sound knowledge and application of Australian Accounting Standards, statutory obligations, and Queensland Government financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in SAP R/4 Hana (or equivalent ERP), the Microsoft Office suite, and data analytics tools.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across business units, regions, and external agencies.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in accounting, commerce, or business administration (highly desirable), and/or membership of a professional accounting body (e.g. CPA, CA).
- Ability to pass a criminal history check
- Attractive hourly rate of $69.17 + super at the AO6 classification level.
