We’re seeking a strategic thinker with strong legislative and policy experience to join the team as a Senior Policy Officer. In this role, you’ll play a key part by contributing to strategic planning, policy development, governance, program evaluation, and research activities.
You’ll lead an evidence-based approach, managing research programs and contributing to sector-wide research initiatives. This includes engaging in national forums and supporting reform agendas that align with government priorities.
As a Senior Policy Officer, you'll lead the development, analysis, and evaluation of strategic policy and legislative initiatives, as well as support the ongoing review of programs and policies to ensure they are effective, impactful, and future-focused.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Lead and manage strategic policy and legislative projects from development through to delivery, including supporting technical documentation.
- Analyse legislation, review Cabinet submissions and policy proposals, and provide clear, timely advice on implications for the Department
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders across government to drive cohesive, whole-of-government policy outcomes.
- Prepare high-quality briefings, Cabinet submissions, Ministerial correspondence, and other strategic documentation.

- Brings strong experience in policy development, legislative analysis, and strategic planning.
- Has a proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, and translate complex ideas into clear advice or documentation.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing Ministerial briefings, Cabinet submissions, and reports.
- Thrives in collaborative environments and builds strong, respectful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Has a keen eye for detail and is confident working with data and research to inform evidence-based policy.
- Understands the broader public sector context and can align work to government priorities and reform agendas.
- Brings initiative, curiosity, and sound judgment to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Is committed to contributing to a positive team culture that values inclusion, transparency, and shared purpose.

- Monday to Friday – 38 hours per week
