Public Sector People  is recruiting for an  AO6 Senior Procurement Officer  on behalf of a State Government Department. This is a temporary position within the Procurement and Contract Management Group (PCMG), with potential for extension. PCMG plays a critical role in supporting business units by delivering strategic procurement and contract management advice aligned with departmental priorities.

About the Role:

As a Procurement and Contract Officer, you will deliver specialist procurement support across the full procurement lifecycle—from planning through to contract management. In this role, you will provide professional and timely procurement advice in alignment with Chief Procurement Officer direction, ensuring compliance with Queensland Government Procurement policy and department-specific guidelines.

You will contribute to the delivery of strategic and complex procurement activities that support operational outcomes, including drafting and releasing procurement documentation, leading evaluations, negotiating with suppliers, managing contract transitions, and monitoring contract performance.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing accurate and strategic procurement advice to internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Managing end-to-end procurement activities including sourcing strategy, market engagement, tender evaluation, negotiation, and contract award.
  • Overseeing contract administration including variations, extensions, performance monitoring, reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Maintaining strong stakeholder relationships across government, industry, and suppliers to ensure value for money and optimal procurement outcomes.
  • Conducting site visits to suppliers and facilities to support contract performance and relationship management.
  • Preparing performance reports, briefing notes, and correspondence to a high standard.
  • Maintaining procurement systems and records in accordance with departmental policies and contributing to system improvements.

About you:  
  • Demonstrated experience in managing end-to-end procurement activities across a range of industries, including tender development, evaluation, negotiation, contract award, and supplier debrief processes.
  • Proven ability to successfully deliver complex procurement projects, ensuring compliance with legislative and policy frameworks while achieving value for money outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt procurement approaches in response to changing priorities or emerging challenges.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative approach to guiding internal and external stakeholders on procurement risk and compliance.
  • While not mandatory, tertiary qualifications in business, procurement, or a related discipline, and/or professional certifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), will be highly regarded.
