Public Sector People are recruiting for an experienced AO7 Principal Finance Officer on behalf of a State Government Department. This role plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the department's financial information. The team is responsible for a range of functions including the preparation of financial statements, maintenance of the general ledger, and the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team and contribute significantly to the department's financial accounting and reporting functions. This role requires a strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, financial management legislation, and exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Brisbane CBD Location & 2 Days WFH Per Week
- $85.31 per hour plus super
- Monday to Friday – 36.25 hours per week

Role Responsibilities and Key Duties:
As an AO7 Principal Finance Officer you will have responsibility for the following:
- Lead a collaborative multi-disciplinary team to shape and sustain the programs, systems, policies, and procedures that underpin the department's financial operations.
- Contribute significantly to the accurate and compliant preparation of the department's financial statements, meeting all statutory and internal requirements.
- Ensure the reliability of the department's financial data by expertly managing reconciliations, journals, and supporting documentation within the general ledger and budget systems.
- Play a vital role in enhancing the department's financial accounting and management framework through the development and monitoring of best-practice policies and procedures.
- Provide valuable analytical insights and authoritative guidance to management, business units, and external stakeholders, highlighting areas for improvement and offering strategic options.
The ideal candidate will possess strong proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Excel and a solid understanding of fundamental financial concepts, as well as excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail.
Experience working within a QLD State Government Department is highly desired.
