Are you a highly skilled and motivated Accountant looking for a pivotal role focusing on Capital Projects and Fixed Assets?
  
We are partnering with local council to find a dedicated professional to join their Corporate Services team, specifically within Financial Services. This position is critical in ensuring the financial integrity and strategic management of their significant capital works program and asset base.

- Initial contract until 19th February 2026 with potential extension
- Pay Rate: $69.24 per hour plus super
- Location: Pelican Street, Noosa

The Role: Capital Projects and Fixed Assets Accountant
  
This position plays a key role in the full lifecycle of capital projects, from planning to capitalisation. You will also be central to maintaining the organisation's asset accounting framework and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  
  
  
Key Responsibilities include:
  • Providing strategic planning advice and support for all financial aspects of capital projects.
      
  • Leading and participating in the development and ongoing maintenance of the asset accounting framework.
      
  • Monitoring and reviewing the financial performance of the capital works program, including variance analysis and monthly reporting.
      
  • Ensuring asset financial reporting and disclosure fully comply with Australian Accounting Standards and relevant Local Government Regulation.
      
  • Maintaining the Asset Register to meet statutory reporting requirements.
      
  • Completing monthly reconciliations of asset control accounts and work in progress accounts.
      
  • Contributing significantly to financial year-end processes, including preparing statutory reporting notes and supporting reconciliations.
      
      
  • Participating in the annual asset revaluation process, including liaising with consultants and validating data.
      
  • Providing professional accounting advice to internal staff on asset recognition and financial information preparation.
      
  • Supporting capital funding processes, such as loan borrowing documentation and grant applications/acquittals.
      
  
What You Will Bring   
The successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in asset and capital project accounting:
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
  •   
    Extensive knowledge in asset financial accounting, accounting standards, statutory reporting requirements, and audit compliance, as well as related capitalisation processes.
      
  • Demonstrated understanding of the disciplines of capital project management and strategic asset management, particularly relevant to infrastructure.
      
  • Proven experience in applying cost accounting principles to capital projects and producing financial reports in accordance with relevant standards.
      
  • Excellent analytical and interpretive skills with a proven ability to exercise initiative and judgment.
      
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills to confidently deal with people at all levels.
      
  • Effective time management skills, including the ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
