As part of this evolution, Council has created the position of Chief Information Officer to provide dedicated strategic leadership across technology, digital enablement, cybersecurity, data and information management.

About the Role
Reporting to the Director Customer and Corporate Services, the Chief Information Officer will provide enterprise-wide leadership across Council’s technology, digital enablement, cybersecurity, data governance and information management functions.
This is far more than an ICT operations role. Council is seeking a strategic, contemporary and people-focused leader who can establish a clear technology direction, strengthen organisational capability and translate technology investment into tangible improvements for the organisation and community.
With a major Core Systems program already underway, you will provide leadership across Council’s evolving technology environment while developing the strategy, governance and future priorities required to strengthen digital maturity longer term.
You will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Councillors and leaders across the organisation to identify priorities, develop compelling business cases and build organisational understanding of where investment in technology can deliver the greatest value.
Leading a multidisciplinary function, you will oversee ICT operations, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, information governance and digital initiatives, while supporting a capable existing technical team with the leadership, direction and organisational influence required to succeed.
Importantly, you will have the opportunity to shape the journey ahead, establishing the strategic foundations, strengthening governance and helping Council move from maintaining technology to using it as an enabler of better organisational performance and customer outcomes.
About You
You are an accomplished senior leader with experience across technology, digital transformation, enterprise systems or a related environment within a complex organisation.
While you bring a strong understanding of contemporary technology, cybersecurity, systems and digital capability, you are first and foremost a leader. You know how to set direction, bring people with you and translate complex technical considerations into clear, commercially and organisationally relevant advice.
You are comfortable operating in an environment where not every answer has already been defined. You can assess the current state, establish priorities and develop a practical roadmap that balances organisational ambition with available resources, risk and competing priorities.
Your experience includes leading transformation and change, influencing senior stakeholders and developing the strategies and business cases required to support major investment decisions.
Politically aware and commercially astute, you build credibility quickly and are equally comfortable engaging with technical specialists, executives and non-technical stakeholders.
Most importantly, you are an authentic and collaborative leader who can provide clarity through change, empower an established team and help Baw Baw Shire Council build a secure, contemporary and sustainable technology environment for the future.
