About Baw Baw
Baw Baw Shire is one of Victoria’s fastest-growing regions, with booming communities across Warragul, Drouin and the Shire’s broader greenfield corridors. Set against a backdrop of rolling hills, vibrant townships and a strong sense of community, Baw Baw blends regional lifestyle with the pace and complexity of major urban growth.
As an organisation, Baw Baw is collaborative, community-focused and evolving. With around 400 staff and a culture built on flexibility, learning and development, the Shire supports its people through hybrid work, professional development pathways, wellbeing programs and a genuinely supportive environment. Its rapid population growth and extensive development pipeline create a unique opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of an emerging regional city.
About the Role
This is a pivotal leadership position within Baw Baw’s Planning & Development portfolio, responsible for coordinating subdivision assessments, growth area planning, and the delivery of well-designed communities across the municipality.
Reporting to the Manager Planning, the Coordinator leads a multidisciplinary team spanning planners, development engineers (alongside an Engineering Team Leader), subdivision officers, DCP functions and administrative support.
You’ll oversee the entire development pathway from planning permit through to Statement of Compliance, ensuring that reports are robust, well-written and aligned with legislative requirements, PSPs and DCPs. With the team in a rebuilding phase, this role has a strong focus on lifting capability, providing mentorship, and establishing clearer processes and expectations.
A key priority is improving service consistency and strengthening external relationships. Baw Baw is committed to restoring collaborative engagement with developers and consultants, ensuring issues are resolved early, communication is clear and the process is predictable. With significant growth still ahead, including the early stages of major PSP areas and major subdivisions like Parklea and Seebeck Group developments. The Coordinator will play a central role in shaping long-term development outcomes.
This is an opportunity to influence both culture and process, bringing structure, clarity and leadership to a high-impact development function during an important period of organisational transition.
About You
You’re an experienced planning professional with a strong grounding in statutory planning, subdivision assessment and development engineering processes. Just as importantly, you bring a leadership style that builds confidence. Someone who can review complex reports, guide planners and engineers, and drive improvements in quality and consistency.
You’re comfortable leading multidisciplinary teams and navigating competing pressures in a fast-growing environment. You communicate clearly, collaborate well with developers and consultants, and know how to balance innovation, practicality and compliance.
Your ability to coach, uplift capability and support a team through change will be essential in this environment. Experience within a growth-area municipality or PSP context will be highly regarded.
