Salary: $97,416 -$ 109,636 + 12% Super
Work Type: Full Time, Permanent

Public Sector People are partnering with Mid-Western Regional Council to appoint an Energy & Sustainability Officer. This is a unique opportunity to lead Council's renewable energy and sustainability initiatives while applying your commercial expertise to projects that deliver lasting environmental and organisational outcomes.

With Council's new solar array set to go live soon, you'll play a pivotal role in leading its commercial and operational performance while driving initiatives that support Council's long-term sustainability and climate commitments. Working across finance, operations and environmental services, this is a rare opportunity to make a tangible impact in one of the fastest-growing sectors.

The Role

Reporting to the Financial Planning Coordinator, you'll oversee the performance of Council's renewable energy assets, including the management of solar operations, energy retail agreements and maintenance contracts.

Working closely with stakeholders across finance, operations and environmental services, you'll develop reporting frameworks, provide commercial insights and contribute to sustainability projects that improve resource efficiency and support Council's environmental objectives.

As one of the dedicated energy and sustainability specialists within the organisation, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of a high-profile function and influence strategic decision-making across Council.

About You

Whether your background is in renewable energy, sustainability, commercial finance, engineering or another STEM discipline, you'll bring strong commercial judgement and a passion for delivering practical, long-term outcomes.

You will bring:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates from a broad range of technical and commercial backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in commercial analysis, sustainability, renewable energy, infrastructure or project delivery.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to analyse performance and provide practical recommendations.
  • Experience managing contracts and building productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously while managing multiple priorities.

Experience within Local Government, renewable energy, climate reporting or resource management will be highly regarded but is not essential.

Why Mid-Western Regional Council?

Mid-Western Regional Council serves a growing regional community centred around Mudgee and is committed to investing in renewable energy, sustainability and long-term financial resilience.

  • Lead the commercial and operational oversight of Council's new solar array.
  • Join a progressive organisation investing in renewable energy and sustainability.
  • Work across finance, infrastructure and environmental services in a genuinely diverse role.
  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements, including a 19-day month with one RDO every four weeks.
  • Build your career in one of Australia's fastest-growing industries while delivering meaningful outcomes for the community.

This role will suit a proactive professional who enjoys solving complex problems, building strong relationships and delivering practical solutions that create lasting value for both Council and the community.
