Public Sector People is proud to partner with Mackay Regional Council to recruit an Engineer Strategy – Water & Wastewater, a key technical role within the Infrastructure Planning team.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an engineer who enjoys looking beyond day-to-day operations and wants to influence the long-term planning, growth and sustainability of one of Queensland's largest regional water and wastewater networks.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Coordinator Strategy, Water & Wastewater, you will play a key role in forecasting future infrastructure requirements, supporting strategic asset planning and delivering planning projects that underpin the future growth of the Mackay region.
Working across multiple teams, developers and external stakeholders, you will provide technical expertise that supports evidence-based investment decisions, development assessment and long-term infrastructure planning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting long and short-term water and wastewater infrastructure planning
- Undertaking hydraulic modelling to support network planning and development assessment
- Preparing concept designs, business cases and capital works briefs
- Developing asset management, condition monitoring and forecasting models
- Providing technical advice on development applications relating to water and sewer infrastructure
- Supporting capital investment planning and infrastructure prioritisation
- Delivering planning projects within agreed budgets and timeframes
- Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, consultants and developers to deliver sustainable infrastructure outcomes
- Using data and technical analysis to support strategic decision-making and future regional growth
You are a motivated civil or water engineer who enjoys combining technical engineering with strategic thinking and long-term infrastructure planning.
You will bring:
- Degree qualifications in Civil, Environmental or a related Engineering discipline
- Experience in water and/or wastewater infrastructure planning, design or asset management
- Knowledge of hydraulic modelling and network planning principles
- Experience preparing business cases, capital works programs or strategic planning studies
- Strong understanding of asset management and infrastructure lifecycle planning
- Ability to analyse technical data and provide practical engineering recommendations
- Excellent report writing, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience within local government, consulting or utility environments will be highly regarded
