About the opportunity:
A major government-backed infrastructure programme is being established and we are seeking a senior Engineering Manager – Electrical to lead the electrical infrastructure design workstream through the bid phase and into early delivery
As the Engineering Manager you will direct the HV and LV infrastructure design across the full site – substations, primary and secondary distribution, emergency generation, UPS, earthing and lightning protection, and lighting and small power across industrial, office and restricted-access zones.
You will ensure every design decision is compliant, constructable and fully coordinated across disciplines before construction mobilisation.
Key responsibilities of the Engineering Manager
- Lead the full electrical infrastructure design package, from HV/LV substation design through to distribution, generation, UPS and protection systems across the project.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and client technical standards.
- Own and maintain the Electrical Design Basis, design register, drawing register and TQ log throughout the bid phase.
- Manage technical interfaces with civil, structural, mechanical, fire, security and communications disciplines to eliminate design conflicts early.
- Lead electrical coordination in BIM, driving multi-discipline clash detection and resolution against structural steel, services and overhead crane systems.
- Coordinate primary HV supply connection design and approvals with the network service provider.
- Identify long-lead electrical items (HV switchgear, transformers, generators, MCCs, UPS, specialist equipment) and maintain the electrical procurement schedule.
- Maintain the electrical technical risk register and support value engineering without compromising compliance or constructability.
- Support the commercial team with scope-specific tender and subcontract documentation.
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical).
- 10-15+ years’ experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior design or engineering management role on major programmes.
- Proven HV electrical infrastructure design leadership on Tier 1 industrial or major infrastructure projects of significant scale.
- Experience working within ECI, D&C or managing contractor delivery models.
- Strong working knowledge of AS/NZS 3000, AS 3007 and equivalent Australian infrastructure standards.
- Excellent stakeholder management across government clients, design consultants and JV partners.
