Public Sector People are working with a local council in Melbourne's eastern suburbs to recruit a part-time Environmental Health Officer for a 3-month temporary contract assignment. This role is for 4 days / 30.4 hours per week.
This position is responsible for promoting and protecting community health and wellbeing by educating, monitoring, and enforcing public and environmental health legislation. The officer will engage with residents, businesses, and key stakeholders, contributing to the development of health strategies, policies, and health promotion programs, while managing incidents and inspections in line with relevant legislation.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Educate, monitor, and enforce laws and regulations relating to public and environmental health.
- Investigate public health incidents and manage community health complaints.
- Provide advice in the development of environmental health strategies and emergency management.
- Lead a specialist portfolio such as Food Safety or Public Health.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation aligned with Council and legislative standards.
- Contribute to health education campaigns and evidence-based promotional programs.
- Bachelor Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent, as recognised by Environmental Health Professionals Australia.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental health, including enforcement and education.
- Strong problem-solving, time management, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a high-performing team.
- Proficient in preparing clear reports and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Current Victorian driver’s licence.
