Hours: 16 - 24 hours per week
Rate: $59 per hour + super

The Opportunity
Public Sector People are partnering with a local council in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, to recruit an experienced Events Officer for a temporary contract through to 6 November 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an events professional to take ownership of a diverse program of high-profile council events and work closely with internal and external stakeholders. 

About the Role
As the Events Officer, you will lead the planning and delivery of the Council’s Annual Councillor Event Program, including the Annual Grant Celebration, Community Awards and Australian Citizenship Ceremonies.

Key responsibilities:
  • Planning and delivering events through to on-site delivery and completion.
  • Developing detailed event plans, including timelines, budgets, resources and risk management.
  • Coordinating event approvals and ensuring events align with relevant Council policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Managing suppliers, stakeholders and resources to ensure successful event delivery.
  • Overseeing on-site event operations and responding to issues as they arise.
  • Conducting post-event evaluations and using feedback to identify improvements.
  • Supporting procurement activities, including raising purchase orders, processing invoices and tracking budgets.
Key Criteria:  
  • A degree or diploma in Event Management, or a relevant lesser qualification combined with relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading events involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of event planning policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Excellent organisation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to use sound judgement, solve problems and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong risk awareness and the ability to develop practical mitigation strategies.
  • Local government experience in a similar events role is highly regarded.
