Public Sector People are proud to be partnering with Hornsby Shire Council to recruit a motivated and detail-driven Finance Business Partner. This role provides expert support in financial planning, forecasting and reporting, while fostering strong relationships with operational teams across the organisation. You’ll deliver meaningful business insights, assist with budget development and performance analysis, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance financial decision-making and service delivery.
This is a critical role within the Financial Services team, offering the opportunity to support financial practices that underpin Council’s broader strategic and community goals.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, you will be responsible for:
- Preparing monthly journal reclassifications across projects and GL accounts
- Preparing timely and accurate financial reports and quarterly budget reviews
- Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of Council’s annual budget, and fees and charges
- Supporting staff across Council with budget related training and expert advice on financial systems.
- Analysing financial data to inform decision and drive business efficiency
- Implementing cost allocation, performance measurement, and continuous improvement practices
- Collaborating with stakeholders to provide strategic advice and improve financial literacy
- Maintaining key registers, including Restricted Assets and Unspent Grants
- Degree in accounting, commerce, economics or a related discipline
- CA/CPA status (or working towards) or equivalent professional experience
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage effectively with cross-functional teams
- Proficient in financial systems, advanced Excel skills, and internal controls
- Strong analytical, reconciliation and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and discretion in handling confidential information
- A commitment to customer-focused service delivery within a collaborative team environment
