About the Role
The General Manager, Housing Operations is a key leadership role within YWCA Australia’s Housing & Property function, reporting to the Director, Development and Housing. The General Manager, Housing Operations is also a contributing member of the organisation’s Senior Leadership Team.
Leading three direct reports and a broader team of approximately 15 people, the role will provide national leadership across housing operations spanning five jurisdictions, with accountability for operational performance, service excellence, resident outcomes, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
A key focus will be strengthening the capability, consistency and maturity of the Housing Operations function as it continues to evolve. You will lead and develop the team, build the values-based culture that promotes accountability, collaboration and resident-centred practice.
Through your leadership, the Housing Operations function will continue to build capability, strengthen systems, processes and practices, and deliver high quality and compliant housing services, that create positive outcomes for residents and communities.
The role will play a critical role in delivering positive resident outcomes and shaping organisational success through:
- National Housing Operations and resident management
- Resident engagement and outcomes
- Leading and embedding a values-based, inclusive and resident-centred culture across Housing Operations
- Operational performance, governance and risk
- Community housing regulatory compliance
- Systems, technology and continuous improvement across the function
- Strategic partnerships with government, regulators and sector stakeholders
- Business planning, budgeting and performance reporting.
A key to success will be working closely with the General Manager, Property and broader organisational stakeholders, all of whom contribute to integrated housing outcomes and future growth across operations, property, asset management, maintenance, advocacy, marketing and communications, people and culture, technology, finance, governance, etc.
About You
You are an experienced and values led housing leader with a strong understanding of community housing and the realities of delivering resident centred services within complex environments.

You will ideally bring:
- Significant senior leadership experience across community housing, social housing, homelessness or a related human services environment
- A demonstrated ability to build engaged, high-performing teams and foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion and continuous improvement
- Experience leading multi-site or geographically dispersed teams
- Strong understanding of housing operations and regulatory requirements, including the National Regulatory System for Community Housing (NRSCH) and relevant state based frameworks
- Proven capability across operational performance, budgets, governance, risk and compliance
- Strong commercial, analytical, strategic and technological capability
- Experience building relationships with government, regulators, funders and community stakeholders.
Importantly, you are a genuine people leader who understands the importance of supporting those working closest to residents and communities. You bring a collaborative, supportive and practical leadership style, are comfortable leading complexity and change, and are motivated by improving housing outcomes for women, gender diverse people and their families.
National housing experience will be highly regarded, however YWCA Australia is open to candidates who may not have operated at a national level, provided they bring the right combination of housing expertise, leadership capability, attitude and willingness to step into a broader remit. Salary:$167,500 - $170,000 + superannuation + NFP salary packaging benefits.
