$110,512.78 – $123,836.12 + super (pro-rata)

This role requires minimum 3 days in the office.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Governance Lead to join our client, a forward-thinking local council in Melbourne’s peri-urban west. This is a great opportunity to step into a leadership role where you will drive best practice governance, support key stakeholders, and play a critical role in ensuring transparency and accountability across the organisation.
Reporting to the Manager Finance & Governance, you will lead the delivery of governance functions, ensuring high-quality statutory compliance, ethical decision-making, and effective democratic processes. You will also provide trusted advice to Councillors, Executive Leadership and staff, supporting strong and defensible decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support governance staff, providing day-to-day supervision, mentoring, and performance feedback
- Provide specialist advice on governance requirements, delegations, authorisations, and decision-making processes
- Identify governance risks, emerging issues, and compliance gaps, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies
- Provide governance advice and support to Councillors, including induction, training, and ongoing guidance
- Coordinate governance aspects of the policy lifecycle, including registers, review schedules, consultation, and quality assurance
- Previous experience in Local Government or a similar environment is highly preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a relevant governance role
- Tertiary qualification in a related field
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
