Our client, a leading council in Melbourne’s north-west, is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of People & Safety
to lead their Work Health and Safety and Injury Management functions for a six-month period, while the incumbent focuses on a key organisational project.

The Opportunity
In this pivotal role, you will:
- Drive the strategic direction and continuous improvement of WHS and Injury Management frameworks, systems and policies.
- Provide expert advice, guidance and leadership to the Executive, Managers and staff across all levels of the organisation.
- Champion a proactive and positive safety culture while promoting employee wellbeing.
- Oversee workplace injury and claims management, ensuring effective early intervention and return-to-work outcomes.
- Partner with key stakeholders and external providers to ensure best practice compliance, governance and safety performance.
- Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety, Human Resources or a related discipline, coupled with extensive leadership experience in WHS and Injury Management.
- Proven success in developing and implementing strategic safety and wellbeing initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and influencing skills, with the ability to apply professional judgement in complex operational contexts.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Previous experience working within local government and a strong understanding of relevant legislation, frameworks and practices.
