Lead Data Scientist

Tech & Data People are partnering with a progressive organisation seeking an experienced Lead Data Scientist for an initial short term contract. This role sits at the heart of their data capability, offering the chance to lead high-impact work across client and internal projects.

You’ll be working with a collaborative data team, taking ownership of solution design and delivery, while ensuring business value stays front and centre. What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the development and deployment of machine learning models and data-driven solutions
• Translate complex business questions into structured analytics approaches
• Mentor and support other data professionals, fostering strong coding, testing, and delivery practices
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to align analytics to commercial goals
• Identify opportunities for process automation, data acquisition, and scalable insight delivery
• Contribute to the evolution of data science workflows, tools, and knowledge sharing practices

• 7+ years in data science or advanced analytics roles, with leadership or mentoring experience
• Strong coding ability in Python and SQL, plus experience working with large and complex datasets
• Hands-on experience in a cloud environment (ideally GCP, including BigQuery or BigQueryML)
• Ability to clearly explain analytical approaches and model outputs to non-technical audiences
• Commercial acumen, you know how to connect data initiatives to business value
• Bonus points for experience in marketing analytics, professional services, or visualisation tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Looker
