We are looking for an experienced Microservices & AI Technical Lead to join a federal government department and support a major business application transformation program.

This is a senior technical leadership role focused on modernising platforms, establishing microservices and event-driven architecture, and embedding AI-enabled engineering practices across the software delivery lifecycle.

About the role

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across the design and delivery of cloud-native, microservices-based and AI-enabled platforms.

You will work closely with engineering teams, delivery partners and senior stakeholders to influence architecture and engineering decisions, drive technology modernisation and build technical capability across the organisation.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership across cloud-native, microservices and AI-enabled platforms
  • Design and govern scalable, secure and resilient enterprise architectures
  • Drive the adoption of AI across the software development lifecycle
  • Establish modern engineering practices including DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing and observability
  • Lead technology modernisation, including microservices, containerisation and enterprise system integration
  • Develop reusable engineering patterns and standards to improve scalability and operational resilience
  • Provide technical direction across multidisciplinary teams and delivery partners
  • Lead knowledge transfer and capability uplift across engineering teams
  • Support continuous improvement and the development of engineering maturity
Do you have:
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing cloud-native, microservices and event-driven architectures within complex enterprise environments
  • Strong experience with AI engineering and AI-enabled solutions, including enterprise AI capabilities, semantic search and machine learning
  • Strong software and platform engineering experience across DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability and security by design
  • Experience leading technology modernisation and transformation initiatives and influencing enterprise architecture decisions
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience working with senior executives, multidisciplinary teams and delivery partners
  • Experience translating complex business requirements into practical technology outcomes
