 Maintenance Technician — Sterile Injectables

Location: Chatswood, NSW
Industry: Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (Sterile Injectables)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm (training period), transitioning to rotating 8am–4pm / 7am–3pm shifts
Salary: $100,000–$115,000 + phone + discretionary bonus

 About the Company

Our client is an Australian-owned pharmaceutical manufacturer supplying hospitals nationally and exporting to international markets, with active plans for further global expansion. While smaller than the multinational giants, the business offers genuine access to senior leadership — including regular contact with the CEO — and continued investment in new machinery and cleanroom infrastructure.

This is a business with a strong retention track record: the maintenance team has very low turnover, with tenures ranging from 3 to 20+ years. You'll be joining a close-knit, growing team of 4.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on Maintenance Technician to join the site's maintenance team, working across cleanroom and aseptic suite environments supporting liquid filling and sterile injectable manufacturing. This is a step up for someone with tablet/solid-dose maintenance experience looking to move into liquid/sterile processing — or a great fit for someone already working in sterile injectables.

You'll partner closely with a senior technician during onboarding before moving onto the standard rotating roster.

Reporting to: Asset Manager (who reports to the Chief Operations Manager, then CEO)

Key Responsibilities

- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, critical systems, and services — including purified water systems, cleanroom/aseptic suite systems, vision systems, blister and packaging equipment, and vial-based theatre pack lines (vials sterilised for direct use in operating theatres)
- Attend to breakdowns and troubleshoot faults across equipment, critical systems, and services, escalating to external contractors when a fault is beyond in-house scope
- Investigate and report breakdown root causes and concerns to management
- Ensure adherence to the preventative maintenance schedule
- Document all work and maintain accurate records in the CMMS within a cGMP-compliant change control environment
- Coordinate maintenance and repair activities with external service providers as required

What You'll Also Do

- Follow standard operating procedures in all work performed
- Complete GMP-standard documentation for work activities
- Contribute to the development of procedures and related documentation
- Support investigations into incidents, accidents, quality, and governance issues as needed
- Work collaboratively across Production, R&D, NPI, Validation, and QA/QC to support business objectives
- Identify, assess, and control workplace hazards and risks
- Report any accidents or incidents on the day they occur

 About You

- Mechanically minded, with proven maintenance technician experience in a regulated pharmaceutical environment
- Liquid filling / sterile injectable manufacturing experience strongly preferred; solid dose (tablet) experience will also be considered
- Food manufacturing background is not a fit for this role
- Working knowledge of CMMS platforms
- Exposure to equipment commissioning and validation processes
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills across mechanical, electrical, or utilities systems (purified water systems, vision systems, packaging lines)
- Comfortable working to GMP/cGMP standards and change control processes
- A collaborative approach and willingness to train and support colleagues
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- No formal pharma qualification required — full training and support provided; the business will also consider candidates straight out of a mechanical apprenticeship

 Why Apply

- Direct, regular exposure to senior leadership including the CEO — a level of access not typical at larger multinational manufacturers
- Genuinely low staff turnover and a stable, tenured team culture
- Ongoing investment in new equipment and cleanroom upgrades
- Structured onboarding alongside a senior technician
- Company-supported training courses (up to $2,000) and career development, including pathways for apprentice-level candidates
- A growing, internationally expanding business with export markets beyond Australia
