Operations Manager

Design and Build have partnered with an EPC who is seeking an experienced Operations Manager with a strong background leading HV infrastructure, substation and/ OR BESS projects. This critical role will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of these projects, ensuring effective coordination across teams, and driving successful delivery on time and within budget. The Operations Manager will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other key stakeholders to ensure projects meet quality standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the operations of substation and BESS projects from an operational perspective, ensuring the seamless execution of project plans and deliverables.
• Oversee the performance of project managers, providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance to ensure the successful completion of substation and BESS projects.
• Ensure that projects are delivered within budget, on time, and in accordance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure alignment across all aspects of the project lifecycle.
• Monitor and evaluate project performance using key metrics, proactively addressing challenges, delays, and cost overruns as needed.
• Review and approve project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations for substation and BESS projects.
• Act as a primary point of contact for senior management, clients, and stakeholders regarding project progress, risks, and performance.
• Ensure adherence to all industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices throughout the lifecycle of the project.
• Implement process improvements and best practices to drive efficiency and continuous improvement in project execution.
• Provide training and development opportunities for project managers, fostering a culture of growth, excellence, and accountability within the project management team.
• Manage resource allocation across multiple projects, ensuring that sufficient staff, materials, and equipment are available to meet project demands.
• Oversee risk management activities, ensuring proactive identification and mitigation of risks that could affect project timelines or quality.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Project Management, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
• A minimum of 7+ years of experience in operations management, with a focus on electrical projects, substations, and/ OR BESS installations.
• Proven experience overseeing project managers and large-scale projects within the energy sector, particularly in substation or BESS-related work.
• Strong electrical engineering knowledge, with a deep understanding of substation design, BESS technology, and electrical power systems.
• Exceptional leadership skills with a track record of managing teams and driving results in a complex, fast-paced project environment.
• Strong project management skills, including experience with scheduling, budgeting, resource management, and risk management.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar tools) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
• Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols in electrical infrastructure projects.
