We're partnering with a growing contractor delivering major commercial and civil projects across NSW. Due to continued growth, they're looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to take ownership of the payroll function while working closely with HR, Finance and site teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment and has experience navigating the complexities of construction payroll, including EBA interpretation, site allowances and high-volume processing.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you'll be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll while ensuring compliance with Awards, Enterprise Agreements and relevant legislation.
Key responsibilities include:
- End-to-end processing of weekly and fortnightly payroll.
- Interpret and apply Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs), Modern Awards and Fair Work legislation.
- Process overtime, site allowances, travel, RDOs, meal allowances and other construction-specific entitlements.
- Manage employee onboarding and payroll maintenance.
- Process terminations, annual leave, long service leave and redundancy payments.
- Ensure compliance with Superannuation, PAYG, STP and payroll tax obligations.
- Reconcile payroll, leave balances and payroll-related general ledger accounts.
- Respond to payroll queries from employees, supervisors and management.
- Work closely with HR and Finance to continuously improve payroll processes.
- Previous end-to-end payroll experience within the construction, engineering, civil or infrastructure industry.
- Strong knowledge of Enterprise Agreements (EBAs) and/or Modern Awards
- Experience processing weekly payroll for site-based workforces.
- Confidence interpreting overtime, allowances, penalties and RDO accruals.
- High attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels.
- Experience using payroll systems such as Employment Hero, Micropay, Chris21, ADP, MYOB Advanced, TechnologyOne, SAP, Kronos, UKG or similar (highly regarded).
