Principal Communications Advisor

Inner South-East Melbourne Council | 3-Month Contract | $70 ph + super | Hybrid

Public Sector People are partnering with a local council in Melbourne’s inner south-east to recruit a Principal Communications Advisor for a 3-month temporary contract.

In this senior role, you’ll take the lead on a number of key strategic projects, working closely with executives and stakeholders to deliver impactful communications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Primary focus: Create and deliver communications strategies for major infrastructure projects.
• Secondary focus: Develop and implement marketing-communications plans across council departments.
• Provide high-level strategic advice to senior executives.
• Lead external and internal communications, including media engagement, digital and social media campaigns.
• Produce creative content and manage updates across council’s website, intranet, and project platforms.
• Manage complex stakeholder engagement across community, business, and government partners.

• Demonstrated experience in a senior communications role within local government (essential).
• Background in infrastructure or major projects communications highly regarded.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work with senior executives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to manage competing priorities.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Communications (preferred).
