This QLD local council is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to lead the delivery of road and drainage construction projects across a large and diverse network. You will provide strategic and operational leadership to engineers, supervisors and field teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest standards.
  
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of road, drainage and civil construction projects across the capital works program
  • Provide technical direction, engineering expertise and contract management support
  • Manage project planning activities including scope, scheduling, budgeting and risk management
  • Oversee contractor procurement, tendering, contract administration and performance
  • Drive effective resource management across labour, plant and materials
  • Monitor financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting and cost control
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors and the community
  • Champion a high-performing, safety-focused culture across all construction activities
  • Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team, including engineers, supervisors and field staff
  • Ensure compliance with legislative, environmental and workplace health & safety requirements
  • Deliver accurate and timely reporting on project progress, risks and performance
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across construction practices and processes
  
  
Successful candidate
  • A degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and eligibility for professional registration (e.g. RPEQ)
  • Extensive experience in civil construction or maintenance, ideally within roads and drainage
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams within the road construction/delivery space
  • Strong experience in project and contract management, including capital works delivery
  • Sound financial management skills, including budgeting and cost control
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate
  • High-level planning and organizational capability, managing multiple priorities effectively
  • Strong knowledge of construction standards, materials and engineering best practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace health & safety and risk management
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to drive culture, performance and continuous improvement
