About the opportunity:
A major government infrastructure programme is just about to enter the RFP phase and we are seeking a senior Project Manager(Electrical package) to define the construction strategy, procurement approach and constructability methodology for all electrical works during the bid phase.
As the Project Manager you will lead the interface between design and construction and will define how electrical installation is executed across the full site – HV cable routes, substations, switchgear fit-out, MCC and distribution, through to testing and commissioning. You’ll work alongside the Engineering Manager – Electrical to drive constructability into the design and establish the site’s temporary and permanent power strategy.
Key responsibilities of the Project Manager
- Own the Electrical Construction Execution Plan, defining installation sequencing across HV cabling, HV/LV substations, switchgear rooms, MCCs, distribution cabling, equipment installation and commissioning.
- Drive modular electrical solutions (pre-assembled MCC modules, pre-wired skids, modular UPS) to reduce site labour, compress programme and improve quality.
- Develop the electrical subcontractor packaging strategy, including package structures, procurement schedules and pre-qualification criteria.
- Lead constructability reviews of electrical design, identifying clashes, access issues and sequencing conflicts with civil, structural, mechanical, communications and security infrastructure.
- Plan and manage temporary construction power required during the delivery phase.
- Develop the permanent power sequencing plan and coordinate HV supply connection with the network service provider as a key programme milestone.
- Manage the HV switchover from temporary to permanent supply without disruption to active construction areas.
- Establish the risk management plan, mitigation measures and manage interfaces across all disciplines.
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical).
- 10-15 years’ electrical construction project management on Tier 1 industrial or major infrastructure, industrial, mining or O&G projects.
- Proven experience delivering electrical construction from concept through commissioning on large greenfield or brownfield sites with HV infrastructure.
- Track record planning and delivering temporary construction power on large industrial projects
- Experience managing multi-contractor electrical workforces across concurrent packages on complex industrial sites.
- Strong safety leadership credentials in high-risk industrial construction environments.
