Project Officer - Open Space

The Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Open Space Projects Officer to join Council’s Open Space and Recreation team. This role is responsible for coordinating and delivering a range of open space and recreation projects, including capital upgrades, asset renewals, and implementation of actions from Council’s Public Spaces and Recreation Strategy and Open Space Asset Management Plan.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver open space and recreation projects on time, within budget, and to agreed standards.
• Implement actions from Council’s Public Spaces and Recreation Strategy and supporting open space plans.
• Oversee contractors to ensure objectives are met, WHS standards are followed, and timeframes are achieved.
• Undertake site assessments, community consultation, and respond to feedback.
• Prepare and/or supervise detailed design and construction plans for parks and recreation assets.
• Provide direction, supervision, and project support across multiple initiatives.

• Tertiary qualifications in landscape architecture, sport and recreation planning, landscape management, civil projects, or related field; or significant relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience in community consultation and engagement with community groups.
• Proven ability to coordinate and/or manage public open space projects and contractors.
• Strong computer skills including CAD, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Suite.
• Current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.
• Commitment to Work Health & Safety principles and training.

• End-to-end management of open space and recreation projects, including grant-funded, recurrent, and capital works.
• Site assessments and consultation leading to development of plans and strategies.
• Preparation or oversight of detailed design and construction documentation.
• Delivery of initiatives within the Open Space and Recreation Unit.
• Contractor supervision and direction.
