About Bayside City Council
Bayside City Council is a well regarded and highly engaged local government organisation located in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. With a strong coastal character and vibrant local communities, Bayside is committed to delivering high quality services, infrastructure and community outcomes.

Council manages a diverse portfolio of open space, recreation and community infrastructure and continues to invest in projects that support participation, connection and liveability across the municipality. With a strong focus on collaboration, accountability and delivering great outcomes for the community, Bayside provides an environment where people are trusted to take ownership and make a meaningful contribution.

About the Role
The Recreation Projects Officer is a key role within Bayside’s Open Space and Recreation team, responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of a diverse portfolio of recreation capital works projects.

Reporting to the Coordinator Recreation Services, this role manages the client-side requirements across projects from planning and scope development through to design, stakeholder engagement and construction. You will work closely with Council’s Project Services team, consultants and contractors, as well as sporting clubs, community groups and facility users, ensuring projects are effectively planned and delivered.

The breadth of the portfolio is a real feature of this opportunity. Projects can range from smaller recreation and open space initiatives through to significant building, sporting and community infrastructure projects. You will be involved in developing project scopes, coordinating technical streams, managing stakeholders, monitoring project progress and supporting delivery against time, cost, quality and governance requirements.

This is a role for someone who enjoys being close to the project and seeing it through. You will have the autonomy to manage multiple projects, while working collaboratively across Council and with external partners to deliver outcomes for the Bayside community.

About You
You are an experienced project professional with demonstrated experience delivering capital works, infrastructure, building, construction, recreation or open space projects. You will be comfortable working across the project lifecycle and confident operating in a client-side environment.

You bring strong stakeholder engagement skills and are comfortable working with contractors, consultants, community groups, sporting clubs and internal stakeholders. Confident managing competing priorities, navigating complex stakeholder environments and providing sound project advice while maintaining a strong focus on delivery.

You will bring experience across building or construction projects, with an understanding of the practical considerations involved in taking projects from design through to construction and completion. Local Government experience will be highly regarded, but Council is open to candidates from adjacent project delivery environments who can bring relevant transferable experience.

You will be organised, proactive and comfortable working with autonomy, while contributing positively to a collaborative and experienced team. The ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, manage timelines and budgets, and communicate clearly with a broad range of stakeholders will be important.

This role would strongly suit:
  • An experienced Local Government project officer or project manager with recreation, open space, infrastructure or capital works experience
  • A client-side Project Manager or Project Officer from a building, construction or community infrastructure environment
  • A recreation or open space professional looking to broaden their project delivery experience
  • A project professional from a consulting environment with experience delivering projects for Local Government
A tertiary qualification in Sport, Recreation, Open Space, Project Management or a related discipline is desirable. Experience working within Local Government and delivering sporting or community infrastructure will be highly regarded. A current Victorian Driver’s Licence is required.

The Opportunity
This is a two year fixed-term Band 7 opportunity, offering the chance to join an experienced Recreation team and contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects that have a direct and visible impact on the Bayside community.

Salary: Band 7, $118,508.69 – $132,759.48 + superannuation
