About Baw Baw Shire
Located in Victoria’s thriving Gippsland region, Baw Baw Shire Council is one of the state’s fastest-growing municipalities, offering a dynamic blend of urban growth, country charm and natural beauty. With a community-first approach and a strong commitment to safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement, Council is focused on building a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.

The Role
As the Return to Work Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in fostering a safe and supportive work environment across Council. Reporting to the Coordinator People & Culture (Operations), this role is responsible for coordinating early intervention, return-to-work and WorkCover processes while partnering with leaders to build capability in health, safety and wellbeing.

You’ll lead proactive initiatives that reduce workplace injuries, promote early recovery, and strengthen Council’s culture of safety and care. This is a hands-on role that balances compliance with genuine collaboration and relationship-building across the organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
• Coordinate early intervention, return-to-work and WorkCover claim management.
• Partner with Council’s WorkCover insurer, treating practitioners and leaders to deliver effective return-to-work outcomes.
• Support leaders to build safety capability, manage risk, and foster healthy, resilient teams.
• Implement and maintain consistent OHS policies, frameworks and monitoring processes.
• Assist with incident investigations, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement actions.
• Champion proactive health, safety and wellbeing initiatives across the organisation.

About You
You are an experienced and people-focused safety and injury management professional who thrives on creating safe, supportive workplaces. With strong knowledge of WorkCover legislation, return-to-work coordination and best-practice safety frameworks, you bring a practical, empathetic and solutions-oriented approach.

Your ability to partner with leaders, communicate with influence and drive positive outcomes will be key to your success. You’re equally confident managing complex claims as you are designing programs that strengthen wellbeing across the organisation.

Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety, Human Resources or a related discipline are required, along with relevant Return to Work Coordinator training (or a willingness to obtain it).

Your Application
If you’re passionate about improving safety, wellbeing and recovery outcomes while contributing to a culture of care and accountability, we’d love to hear from you.

For inquiries or to receive a copy of the comprehensive Position Description, please contact Cheri Randell at cheri@publicsectorpeople.com.au or 0466 699 297.

Applications for this role will close on Sunday 23rd November 2025.
