About the Role:

Seeking an experienced and capable Senior Accountant to take ownership of the full finance function within a busy, project-driven business operating in the civil and infrastructure sector.

This is a newly created role, offering the opportunity to step into a key position where you will oversee day-to-day financial operations, reporting, payroll, and project accounting, while also supporting and guiding two accounts team members.

You will play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting, while contributing to budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management across multiple projects.


Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full finance function including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and month-end close processes
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and end-of-financial-year financial reports
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management across projects
  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with relevant legislation
  • Administer project financials including cost tracking and project accounting support
  • Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other compliance reporting requirements
  • Ensure accuracy of financial data and maintain strong internal controls
  • Lead and support a small accounts team, providing guidance and oversight
  • Deliver ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required
Skills and Experience
  • Qualified accountant (CA/CPA preferred) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Strong background in financial accounting and reporting within the Australian market
  • Experience preparing financial statements in a commercial or project-based environment
  • Demonstrated ability in budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and accounting processes
  • Experience with BAS preparation and month-end reporting
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders
  • High attention to detail with strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience in construction, civil, transport, or project-based industries highly regarded
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel
