This opportunity will suit a senior communications professional who enjoys working at the frontline of major projects; balancing proactive engagement, media considerations, and issues management, while providing trusted advice to senior leaders and project teams.
As the AO6 Senior Communications Advisor, you will work within a dedicated Communications and Engagement function and play a key role in connecting project objectives with the communities they impact. You will lead day‑to‑day engagement activity, guide a small team, and ensure communications are timely, clear and responsive.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead planning and delivery of community‑facing communication and engagement activities across multiple projects.
- Provide senior‑level advice on media matters, public messaging, stakeholder sensitivities and emerging risks.
- Oversee correspondence and information outputs to ensure accuracy, consistency and clarity.
- Coach and support a small communications and engagement team, driving quality and accountability.
- Partner with project managers and technical teams to anticipate issues and develop proactive communication responses.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with community members, industry representatives and government stakeholders.
- Monitor project activity and environmental context to identify trends, risks and opportunities affecting engagement outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior communications or engagement role within government or complex delivery environments.
- Strong capability across media, stakeholder engagement, issues management and strategic communications.
- Proven ability to lead and support others while managing competing priorities.
- Confident influencing and advising senior stakeholders on sensitive or high‑profile matters.
- Clear, professional communication style with excellent written capability.
- Adaptable, practical and comfortable working in fast‑moving project settings.
- Australian citizenship, permanent residency or valid working rights.
- Full‑time temporary contract through to December 2026, with strong potential for extension
