Public Sector People are proud to partner with Mosman Council to recruit a motivated Senior Community Engagement Officer. This role leads community engagement and corporate communications, ensuring Council initiatives are well-communicated and that genuine opportunities for participation are embedded in decision-making.

You’ll deliver tailored engagement strategies, create compelling content across multiple channels, and build strong relationships with stakeholders to support Council’s strategic goals. This is a pivotal role within the Communications & Engagement team, strengthening trust, transparency and collaboration between Council and the community.
  
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Engagement, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing community engagement strategies, policies and procedures aligned to Council’s objectives.
  • Coordinating inclusive consultation activities such as surveys, workshops, focus groups, and pop-up sessions.
  • Providing expert advice to staff on best practice engagement, risk management, and evaluation.
  • Drafting and delivering clear, accessible communication materials for diverse audiences across digital and traditional channels.
  • Managing Council’s online engagement platform and reporting on consultation outcomes.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure community voices inform Council decision-making.
  • Supporting continuous improvement in engagement and communications practices across the organisation.
  
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree-level qualifications in communications, public relations, social sciences or a related discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Strong track record in planning and delivering community engagement and/or communications projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in digital engagement tools, content creation, and social media management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively across teams.
  • High-level interpersonal and facilitation skills, with the ability to build trust and manage sensitive issues.
  • Commitment to best practice, inclusivity, and customer-focused service delivery.
