Public Sector People are partnering with Mackay Regional Council to appoint a Senior Coordinator – Water & Wastewater — a pivotal technical and leadership role responsible for shaping the long-term planning, performance and resilience of water supply and wastewater infrastructure across the region.

The Role
Reporting to the Executive Manager Infrastructure Planning, you will provide strategic oversight and coordination of Council’s water and wastewater infrastructure planning functions.
You will lead and align operational and strategy-focused coordinators while ensuring asset performance, regulatory compliance and long-term financial sustainability objectives are achieved.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the development of long-term water & wastewater asset management strategies
- Overseeing capital works programs, renewal forecasting and investment planning
- Providing expert technical advice in hydraulic modelling, network capacity and infrastructure planning
- Coordinating advanced modelling frameworks and data-informed decision-making processes
- Ensuring compliance with ADWG, WSAA, environmental legislation and regulatory requirements
- Managing multidisciplinary teams and aligning technical, strategic and operational outcomes
- Preparing business cases, funding strategies and infrastructure delivery briefs
- Engaging with regulators, state agencies and industry stakeholders
- Driving innovation in climate resilience, sustainability and service optimisation
This role carries significant authority and influence across Council’s Infrastructure Planning Program and plays a key role in shaping growth outcomes across the Mackay region.
About You
You are a technically strong water industry professional with the leadership capability to mentor, align and elevate a specialist team.
Council is seeking a leader who combines hydraulic modelling expertise and water/sewer network knowledge with strategic foresight and succession potential.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil, Environmental, Process or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline)
- Substantial experience in water and wastewater infrastructure planning and delivery
- Strong knowledge of integrated water management and hydraulic modelling frameworks
- Demonstrated experience leading capital works programs and long-term asset forecasting
- Experience navigating regulatory compliance and audit environments (e.g. NPR, QWRAP, SWIM)
- Strong stakeholder engagement and advisory capability
- Proven leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams
- Local government experience will be highly regarded, particularly within growth-driven or regional service environments.
