Senior Integration & Automation Specialist
Location: Inner West, Sydney NSW
Work Type: Full Time
Hours: 35-hour week
Salary:$122,063 – $137,421 per annum + 12% superannuation. An additional market allowance may be negotiated, depending on skills, qualifications and experience.

Public Sector People is proud to be partnering with Inner West Council to appoint a Senior Integration & Automation Specialist.

This is an exciting opportunity to establish and shape a new Integration & Automation capability within Council's Digital Services team, with genuine scope to influence the technology, standards and ways of working from the ground up.

Council is looking for someone who enjoys both the technical and people side of integration and automation. Someone who can engage with stakeholders, understand business challenges, design practical solutions and remain hands-on in bringing them to life.

Working within a supportive and forward-thinking team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to modern integration architecture, explore emerging technologies and deliver innovative solutions that improve how Council operates and provides services to its community.

The Opportunity

You'll play a key role in developing Council's Integration & Automation capability, combining hands-on technical delivery with solution design, stakeholder engagement and technical leadership.

Working closely with business areas, Digital Services teams and external partners, you'll lead conversations to understand business needs, challenge existing approaches and identify opportunities for integration, automation and improvement.

You'll take ownership of solutions from initial discovery and design through to development, implementation and ongoing support, ensuring they are secure, scalable and fit for purpose.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Designing, developing and implementing enterprise integrations, APIs and automation solutions across Council's systems and platforms.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to understand business challenges, explore options and translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Applying modern integration architecture principles, including API-led, event-driven, message-based and workflow integration patterns.
  • Establishing reusable integration standards, frameworks and practices to support a growing capability.
  • Working collaboratively with vendors, implementation partners and internal teams to deliver effective outcomes.
  • Providing technical leadership, mentoring and guidance while remaining actively involved in hands-on delivery.
  • Exploring opportunities to apply AI, intelligent automation and emerging technologies to improve processes and service delivery.
About You

We're looking for an experienced integration and automation professional who combines strong hands-on technical capability with a consultative approach, sound solution design skills and the confidence to take ownership.

You'll enjoy working directly with stakeholders to understand their challenges, asking the right questions and exploring solutions rather than simply working from a technical specification.

Equally, you'll be someone who still enjoys building, troubleshooting and delivering solutions, with the ability to balance technical considerations with broader business needs.

You'll bring:

  • Strong hands-on experience designing, developing and supporting enterprise integrations, APIs and automation solutions.
  • Experience with Azure Integration Services, Microsoft Power Platform or comparable integration and automation technologies.
  • Sound understanding of modern integration architecture, API management, integration patterns, security and governance.
  • Hands-on development experience across scripting, coding, workflow automation and integration technologies.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and consulting skills, with experience leading discovery discussions, gathering requirements and translating business challenges into technical solutions.
  • The ability to assess technical options, explain risks and trade-offs, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with vendors, delivery partners and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability and technical leadership, with the ability to mentor others and influence technical decisions.

You'll also be curious about how AI is changing integration, automation and software delivery, including how AI-assisted development, intelligent automation and agents can complement traditional integration and workflow technologies. Practical experience is highly regarded, but not essential.

Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as TechnologyOne, Dynamics 365, ESRI or other SaaS applications would also be valuable.

You don't need to have held a formal Integration Architect or people management position. This opportunity could suit a Senior Integration Engineer, Integration Consultant, Technical Lead or emerging Solution Architect who remains hands-on and is looking to take the next step in their career.

Above all, Council is looking for someone who is curious, collaborative and willing to challenge existing approaches, explore new ideas and take considered risks to deliver better outcomes.

Why Inner West Council?
  • Greenfield opportunity: Help establish Councils Integration & Automation capability, with genuine input into its direction, architecture and ways of working.
  • Innovation and emerging technology: Contribute to AI-enabled initiatives, intelligent automation and modern digital solutions.
  • Career development: Build on your technical expertise while growing your architecture, stakeholder engagement and leadership capabilities.
  • Meaningful projects: Work on initiatives connecting enterprise systems, data platforms, customer experiences and frontline services.
  • Supportive culture: Join a collaborative Digital Services team with progressive leadership that encourages creativity, new ideas and continuous improvement.
  • Work-life balance: Enjoy a 35-hour working week, flexible working arrangements, access to Fitness Passport and additional leave benefits, including MyLeave and Christmas/New Year grant days.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to do more than deliver individual integrations. You'll have the chance to help shape how Council approaches integration and automation, influence technical decisions and build solutions that make a genuine difference.
