About Maribyrnong

Just six kilometres west of Melbourne’s CBD, Maribyrnong is one of Victoria’s most diverse and dynamic municipalities. With a population of over 100,000, the City is known for its cultural vibrancy, strong community spirit, and rich mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas.

Council is dedicated to creating an inclusive, sustainable, and connected community. With a commitment to innovation and bold action, Maribyrnong is leading the way in tackling climate change and embedding sustainability across its services. This includes major investment in waste reform, sustainable transport, and urban renewal projects that aim to improve liveability and reduce environmental impacts.

As part of this commitment, the Waste Services team is playing a pivotal role in delivering the Towards Zero Waste Strategy and preparing for the introduction of Victoria’s legislated 4-bin system by 2027. For people joining the team, it’s an opportunity to contribute to city-shaping change with long-term community benefits.

About the Role

This role plays a key part in supporting the Towards Zero Waste Service Transformation Project, including the including the implementation of kerbside reforms under the Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Act 2021.
You’ll assist with project delivery, including the rollout of new Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) services to multi-unit developments, coordination of contractors and suppliers, and on-the-ground audits. The role also contributes to the broader Service Transformation Project, which aims to identify and implement key initiatives that move the community closer to achieving Zero Waste.

Day-to-day, you will work collaboratively with internal teams and the community, supervise field activities, and provide practical support to keep the project on track. This includes maintaining accurate project documentation, reporting on key milestones, and preparing handover materials to ensure project outcomes are effectively embedded into business-as-usual operations.

About You

You are a motivated professional with strong experience in local government waste services. You bring a solid understanding of the waste sector and enjoy working both in the field and as part of project teams. With experience supervising contractors, engaging with the community, and overseeing in-field operations, you ensure high standards of safety, customer service, and community satisfaction.
You are skilled in maintaining clear and accurate reporting and documentation to support effective project delivery. With strong problem-solving skills, a sound understanding of kerbside waste and recycling services, and a collaborative, community-focused approach, you manage competing priorities while maintaining safe work practices is key to your success in this role.
