Public Sector People are partnering with Mid-Western Regional Council to appoint a Strategic Engineering Coordinator – Water and Sewer to lead the planning, coordination and delivery of critical water and wastewater infrastructure across the region.
This is a key leadership role within Council’s Operations Directorate, supporting one of regional NSW’s fastest-growing communities.

About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Water and Sewer, the Strategic Engineering Coordinator will lead a team of engineering and technical professionals responsible for planning, developing and delivering water supply and sewer infrastructure programs across the region.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating engineering and technical services in line with legislative and strategic requirements
- Leading capital works planning, budget preparation and program cost control
- Managing project delivery across internal teams, contractors and stakeholders
- Overseeing asset management systems and lifecycle planning
- Providing technical advice on developer-contributed assets
- Preparing reports for Council and senior leadership
- Leading workplace health and safety within the team
This role combines strategic planning, capital program delivery and people leadership. It requires someone who can manage multiple projects while maintaining strong governance, financial oversight and stakeholder engagement.
About You
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader who brings:
- Degree in Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia
- Strong experience in water and sewer infrastructure planning, design and delivery
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and compliance frameworks
- Experience delivering capital works programs and managing contractors
- Ability to prepare and present technical reports to senior stakeholders
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
- Commitment to workplace health and safety leadership
Highly regarded:
- Experience with MW21 or GC21 contracts
- Lifecycle cost planning and long-term infrastructure strategy experience
- Background in civil, water or wastewater contract superintendency
This role will suit a technically credible leader who enjoys both strategy and delivery, and who can guide teams through complex infrastructure programs in a collaborative council environment.
Working Environment
This is a full-time position based in Mudgee, with a mix of office and field-based responsibilities. The role is offered under the Local Government (State) Award 2023, with flexibility provisions across a 19-day month.
A competitive Total Remuneration Package will be offered in line with Council’s grading structure.
