Mackay Regional Council | Parks & Open Spaces | Level 5
Public Sector People are partnering with Mackay Regional Council to appoint a Supervisor Operational Maintenance — a hands-on leadership role responsible for planning and delivering maintenance activities and project outcomes across Council’s built infrastructure and facilities.
This is an opportunity for an experienced facilities, building maintenance, asset or trade professional to step into a broad supervisory role combining team leadership, maintenance planning, minor project delivery, contractor management and technical advice.
The Role
Reporting to the Coordinator Building Maintenance, you will lead the operational maintenance function and supervise the Facilities Operation Officer and Team Leader Operational Maintenance. You will coordinate reactive and preventative maintenance, minor capital and operational projects, and support the long-term performance of Council’s built assets.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning, scheduling and coordinating maintenance activities across Council’s built infrastructure and facilities
- Leading the delivery of minor capital and operational projects from scoping through to completion
- Conducting building condition assessments and using condition data to inform planned maintenance and asset renewal priorities
- Developing project scopes, cost estimates and resource requirements
- Managing contractors, trades, suppliers and service providers, including contractual and WHS compliance
- Supporting contract renewals and improving contractor performance and service delivery
- Monitoring expenditure and contributing to annual financial performance across managed assets
- Providing practical technical advice on building and facility maintenance to internal stakeholders and external contractors
- Leading, motivating and developing staff while maintaining a strong safety, wellbeing and accountability culture
The position also participates in a rostered on-call function, with some out-of-hours work and domestic travel required.
About You
You will be a practical and organised maintenance or facilities professional who understands how to keep a diverse built asset portfolio operating safely, efficiently and reliably. Just as importantly, you will be comfortable leading people, coordinating competing priorities and working closely with contractors and internal stakeholders.
Council is open to candidates from facilities management, building maintenance, asset management, project delivery or relevant trade backgrounds.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience delivering reactive and preventative maintenance across buildings or facilities
- Experience scoping, planning, scheduling and delivering minor capital and operational projects
- Strong contractor, trade and supplier management capability
- Experience with building condition assessments, maintenance planning and asset renewal activities
- The ability to read and interpret building plans, specifications and engineering reports
- Sound knowledge of relevant building, fire safety and workplace health and safety requirements
- Strong team leadership, communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
- Confidence using corporate systems, Microsoft Office and asset/facility management software
Relevant qualifications in Project Management, Facilities Management, Building Maintenance, Asset Management, a trade or another related field are required. A Diploma is preferred, although Certificate III/IV qualifications or substantial relevant experience may also be considered. A General Construction White Card and Queensland C Class Driver Licence, or interstate equivalent, are essential.
Previous local government experience will be highly regarded but is not essential.
