AO5 Town Planner
- 3-month contract | Focus on infrastructure and development planning
- Based in Fortitude Valley | 10-day fortnight, 40-hour week

Public Sector People are partnering with a well-regarded government department to recruit an experienced Town Planner for a 3-month temporary engagement. This is an excellent opportunity to support critical infrastructure projects within a collaborative, high-performing planning and property team.
The Role
Reporting to the Town Planning Manager and based at the Fortitude Valley office, you will provide planning advice, development assessment support, and coordinate key statutory planning functions. You’ll contribute to a variety of major infrastructure and energy-related projects, helping ensure legislative compliance under the Planning Act 2016 and Planning Regulation 2017.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out Referral Agency duties in accordance with relevant planning legislation
• Prepare and manage Development Applications through to approval
• Support state interest reviews and interpret changes in planning legislation
• Deliver professional and timely planning advice to internal stakeholders
• Coordinate planning activities in collaboration with the Senior Town Planner
• Align planning practices with broader organisational strategies and priorities
• Promote safety, diversity, and confidentiality in all communications and activities
• Maintain compliance with relevant government policies and procedures
- Open to short-term contract opportunities
- Previous government experience is an advantage
- Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning
- Planning institute of Australia recognised is preferable.
- Strong working knowledge of the Planning Act 2016 and Planning Regulation 2017
Experience in referral agency duties or development assessment in infrastructure or government contexts - Proven ability to coordinate development applications and planning processes
- Strong problem-solving skills and stakeholder engagement capabilities
- Able to work autonomously and manage competing priorities within multidisciplinary teams
- Start Date: 30 June 2025
• End Date: 26 September 2025 (with possible extension)
• Hours: 40-hour week, 10-day fortnight (8:00am – 4:30pm, 30-minute lunch)
• Location: Fortitude Valley, Brisbane
• Pay Rate: $66.86 per hour + super (negotiable depending on experience)
