Public Sector People are currently recruiting a Traffic Engineer to join a council in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs on a 3 month temporary contract.
The succesful candidate will have multiple years of local government experience as a traffic engineer, strong communication skills and ability to pick up new systems quickly.
You will be responsible for responding to enquiries relating to traffic management, road usage, parking restrictions, line marking and general technical enquiries, reviewing consultant reports on traffic matters, identifying issues for resolutions and undertake investigations in support of traffic related policy development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver High-Quality Customer Experience:
Provide clear, timely, and professional communication to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring customer enquiries and concerns relating to traffic and transport matters are managed effectively and resolved with a service-focused approach. - Review and Assess Traffic Management Plans (TMPs):
Evaluate Traffic Management Plans submitted for a range of works and events to ensure compliance with relevant standards, safety requirements, and local network impacts. Provide guidance and feedback to applicants and contractors to support safe and efficient implementation. - Undertake Traffic Referrals for Town Planning Applications:
Assess planning permit applications with a focus on traffic and transport impacts. Prepare considered traffic engineering referrals and recommendations to ensure proposals meet relevant planning scheme requirements and contribute to a safe and functional transport network. - Desirable – Review Road and Traffic Design Plans for Major Projects:
Support the review of detailed road and traffic infrastructure design submissions for major projects, ensuring alignment with relevant standards such as Austroads Guidelines and the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) Engineering Manual. Provide technical input to optimise safety, efficiency, and compliance in project delivery.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualified in Engineering, eligible for membership of Engineers Australia or equivalent is essential.
- Substantial experience is required, including experience in the delivery of traffic engineering services.
- An understanding and knowledge of Local Government Legislation and procedures would be an advantage.
- Sound communication skills both written and verbal
- Drivers Licence valid in Victoria
- Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, GIS systems, SIDRA and related software is preferred.
