Mid-Western Regional Council is seeking a Water & Sewer Technical Lead to join its team based in Mudgee.

This is an opportunity for an experienced water industry professional to step into a hands-on leadership role supporting the delivery of essential services across a large and diverse regional network.

Reporting into Council's Water & Sewer Coordinators, you will play a key role supervising operational staff, overseeing contractors, supporting capital works projects and helping ensure the safe and reliable operation of Council's water and wastewater infrastructure.

The Opportunity
The Technical Lead position sits at a supervisory level and provides day-to-day leadership across a broad range of operational activities. Depending on business priorities, you may be supporting treatment plant operations, network maintenance programs, capital works projects or contractor-delivered infrastructure upgrades.

The role offers genuine variety and exposure across water treatment plants, sewer treatment facilities, reticulation networks, renewals programs and major infrastructure projects.

You will work closely with Coordinators, Engineers and operational teams to ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise water and sewer operational staff across multiple sites and facilities
  • Coordinate and oversee contractor-delivered maintenance and capital works
  • Support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and safety requirements
  • Conduct site inspections and monitor contractor performance
  • Assist with operational planning, scheduling and resource allocation
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and support to operational teams
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, compliance and continuous improvement
  • Work collaboratively with Engineers, Coordinators and other stakeholders
About You
You may currently be a Team Leader, Supervisor, Leading Hand or Senior Operator looking to take the next step in your career.

Council is particularly interested in candidates with local government water and sewer experience, however applicants from water utilities and related infrastructure environments are encouraged to apply.

You will bring:
  • Experience within water, wastewater, utilities, civil infrastructure or a closely related field
    • Demonstrated experience supervising staff, contractors or operational work crews
    • Strong understanding of water and sewer infrastructure, operations or maintenance activities
    • Experience working within regulated environments with a strong safety focus
    • The ability to read plans, specifications and technical documentation
    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
    • Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations, Civil Construction or a related discipline, or willingness to obtain
    • Current Class C Driver Licence
