Cowra Council is seeking a Water & Wastewater Treatment Engineer to provide engineering leadership across its water and sewage treatment operations.
This is an opportunity to oversee five treatment facilities, improve operational performance and quality systems, and help Council modernise the way it manages critical water infrastructure.
Reporting to the Manager - Cowra Works, you'll lead through an experienced Supervisor and ganger, supporting a qualified team of operators with substantial site and process knowledge.
Council is seeking strong engineering thinking and relevant treatment experience. Civil and chemical engineers are particularly well aligned, although candidates from other relevant engineering disciplines with substantial water or wastewater treatment experience will also be considered.
The Opportunity
This role combines treatment-process engineering, operational leadership, quality control and continuous improvement.
Working across three water treatment plants and two sewage treatment plants, you'll oversee treatment performance, testing, monitoring, optimisation, source-water protection and associated mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and telemetry systems.
The portfolio offers exposure to modern membrane filtration alongside traditional treatment methods, as well as input into plant refurbishment and asset-renewal projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the operation, maintenance, monitoring and optimisation of Council's water and sewage treatment facilities.
- Provide direction and technical support to the Supervisor, ganger and operational team.
- Maintain treatment quality, environmental and Drinking Water Management systems.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, licence conditions and external audit requirements.
- Oversee mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, telemetry and process-control systems.
- Manage operational reporting, assigned budgets, emergency work and contractor services.
- Provide treatment expertise to asset-renewal, refurbishment and improvement projects.
- Drive continuous improvement in process performance, safety, quality and system maturity.
This role would suit a Water Treatment Engineer, Wastewater Treatment Engineer, Process Engineer, Chemical Engineer or Civil Engineer with relevant treatment-operations experience.
You will be technically credible, comfortable working alongside experienced operators and able to investigate issues, develop recommendations and bring well-considered information forward for decision.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Relevant experience across water treatment, wastewater treatment or comparable process operations.
- Knowledge of treatment optimisation, quality control and operational compliance.
- Sound judgement and the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
- Experience leading operators, supervisors, contractors or multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Strong communication, reporting and stakeholder-management skills.
- Current Class C Driver Licence.
