This role will play a key part in driving design outcomes from early-stage planning through to construction delivery, ensuring buildability, programme alignment, and quality outcomes.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Director, the Design Manager will oversee the full design management lifecycle, working closely with project teams, consultants, and clients to ensure designs are coordinated, compliant, and aligned with project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design coordination from concept through to construction documentation
- Manage relationships with architects, consultants, and design teams
- Ensure buildability, cost, and programme considerations are embedded in the design process
- Facilitate design workshops and coordination meetings
- Review drawings and specifications to ensure compliance and constructability
- Work closely with estimating, project management, and site teams
- Manage RFIs, design changes, and documentation control during delivery
- Support preconstruction and tender phases when required
- Experience as a Design Manager, Design Coordinator, or Senior Project Engineer within commercial construction
- Background working for a commercial builder or contractor
- Strong understanding of design development, documentation, and buildability
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience coordinating consultants and design teams
- Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management preferred
- Key design leadership role within a growing commercial builder
